Hedychium coronarium 'White butterfly' Ginger Lily. are grown for their lance-shaped foliage, growing on cane-like stems. They are very exotic plants that can grow quite tall, producing fragrant, pure white flowers with a yellow heart on the lip in late summer/autumn. The mid-green leaves are between 30-50cm long and the tubular flowers can be up to 25cm. They are best grown in full-sun to part-shade though will grow even in deep shade only smaller. Protect from strong cold winds and provide a deep winter mulch if not lifting them for the winter. If you prefer you can dig the rhizomes up and store like Cannas or bulbs, re-planting in spring where they will grow faster and flower more reliably.
Available now in a 3 LItre pot with strong rhizomes ready for dividing if desired. Care details available to download by clicking on Plant Care at the top of any page.
