Chondropetalum tectorum Restio

Restios are hardy grass/bamboo like plants originating from South Africa and quite hardy. Chondropetalum tectorum is a fast growing restio reaching approx 1.5m in height forming a striking clump of architectural foliage when mature. Young plants can look at bit straggly until they have grown a bit. The stems have nodes that grow dark sheaths, providing an interesting stripey pattern. Restio Chondropetalum tectorum grow to approx 1.5m wide and is best grown in full-sun. Restios perform best in well drained soil but also require plenty of moisture in the summer. The brown flower heads are produced in autumn, making this an attractive evergreen frost-hardy plant.
