Restio Quadratus Restio

Restios are hardy grass like bamboos originating from South Africa and quite hardy. Restio quadratus is a fast growing restio reaching approx 2m in height, forming a striking clump of architectural foliage when mature. Quadratus refers to the very distinctive, thick square culm (stem) that develops as the plants mature. Restios are best grown in well drained soil but also require plenty of moisture in the summer. The young canes are very attractive with dark-green, soft & fluffy foliage. They have nodes that grow dark sheaths, providing an interesting stripey pattern. The small flower heads are produced in summer making this an attractive evergreen, frost-hardy plant.
