Phoenix Canariensis Tree

Phoenix canariensis or Canary Island Date Palm is an ideal palm for the UK and grows quickly. Ideal to grow in a pot or border in a sheltered spot with well-drained soil. The feather shaped leaves grow from a dense crown and can grow huge. In the UK, they will not reach the height shown in the photo but they can still be grown to large specimen palms outside. Phoenix canariensis develop a pineapple shaped trunk as the plant matures. The pineapple trunk is not usually seen on younger plants. We have grown these outside with simple fleece protection when young in winter and are hardy to -6C or more.
