One of the most popular and suitable palms for the UK. The Chusan or Windmill Palm from China tolerates temperatures down to -17°C without problem, looking equally good in summer or winter. Trachycarpus fortunei should not be planted in very windy locations as the leaves will look tatty. Large green, fan leaves grow from a hairy, matted trunk that can grow between 10-30cm a year at maturity, although much slower when younger!
Trachycarpus will survive in almost any soil except continuously soggy conditions. Full sun or partial shade is best with adequate moisture making rapid growth and best appearance, but also is amazingly drought tolerant as well. One palm not to miss. The trunks on the plants below become thicker with each increase in trunk height. All plant heights inc. pots and measured from the base of the pot to the top of leaves.
PLEASE NOTE: The largest sizes (240 Litre Pots) will require a special delivery (or collection) and cost is based on location in the UK. Please ask us.
