Cydonia oblonga or Quince has been grown in the UK for many years and are deciduous, thronless shrubs or small trees. Quice can be trained as a small tree with a single trunk or grown as a shrub with multiple branches. Pink or white flowers are produced usually in May/June and grow at the end of the short branches. The fruit is very fragrant and a single fruit can deodorise a room! The fruit is usually pear-shaped but can be round and is best eaten after stewing or baking, the same way as apples. They are fully hardy to at least -15C and are best grown in a sunny and sheltered site.
Available now in 10Litre pots - 200-220cm tall.
