Ginkgo biloba are deciduous trees that are one of the oldest surviving tree species on earth and can live for over a thousand years. They are the sole surviving link between ferns and conifers and have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years and have become popular in Western medicine more recently. Trees reach maturity in 30 years and can reach a height of 30m with an 8m spread.
They are slow growing trees and an annual pruning can easily contain the height of the tree. They also make excellent 'bonsai' specimens. The deciduous leaves are in a fan shape and each leaf is 5-8cm long, changing from light to dark green then in Autumn a very striking luminous yellow. The name biloba derives from the fact that the each leaf is indented in the middle and forms 2 lobes. Suitable for all soils except very dry and are best planted in full sun to part-shade.
Available now in 7.5Litre pots 150-180cm.
