Photinia 'Red Robin' are hardy trees/shrubs which are grown for their colourful and attractive foliage. They are a cross between Asian and American shrubs and whilst not entirely 'tropical' are a useful, striking addition to any garden. Photinia require little attention to produce sealing wax-red new leaves. The adult foliage is deep green with variable red tinted young leaves. They grow well in full-sun or part-shade and can reach a height and spread of 4x4m if left unpruned. Ideal as a specimen to prune or as an attractive screen. In more exposed areas of the country it is wise to plant in a sheltered place as the new growth can become damaged by late spring frosts.
