Araucaria araucana - Monkey Puzzle Tree

Araucaria araucana or Monkey Puzzle Tree is a well known evergreen tree originating from Chile & Argentina. It has been grown in the UK for hundreds of years and is fully hardy. Monkey puzzle trees are extremely slow growing when young and can reach about 25m after many years, growing at a rate of approx. 3m every 10 years. Araucaria araucana is a very distinctive tree with dark-green spiney leaves growing on equally spaced branches from a very straight trunk. A very exotic and unusual tree best planted as a single specimen or in groups on their own. Monkey Puzzle trees grow well in all soil types and anywhere except very exposed sites.
